From August 13 to the 31, at the Cultural House of the National Fund, the Toxic Videos festival will take place, where ‘Paseo’ will be shown as one of the selected videos.

Projects, Cameras, Decisions

I like all kinds of cameras: their designs, functions, styles, shapes; but most of all, I like what they have to offer me as from the aesthetical point of view.

I find inspiration in whatever camera I can get my hands onto, and that’s how a new project is born every time.

I found the Lomo camera at the Malba's store. I chose the Supersampler because I've always been interested in the fragmentation, sequence and composition functions featured in this model. At that particular time, I was going through a phase where I needed to break free from my own structures and leave behind all imposed disciplines. So, the Lomo gave me the freedom I needed to get out there and play with whatever caught my eye. I emerged out of my little box and was then able to see life in colors and allow my eyes to wander around curiously.

So, that’s how this time I started off with the 'Shape'. The idea and full project came later on, after seeing some of the shots I’d taken with the camera. All of them, without my noticing – or at least not at a conscious level –, were of places I had visited during my childhood or adolescence. Everything: trips, country landscapes, routes, beaches… They were all places from my past, whose images had been trapped in my soul. I needed to resurface them, resignify and somehow honour them.

In order to capture and express my present, I took photographs of Buenos Aires, city where I was born and where I currently choose to live.

I worked two years with this project, selected 40 photos and worn out 2 Lomo cameras. Also, I recorded a video, ‘Paseo.’

Currently, I’m back working with my Rollei camera (back into my little box again), while I patiently wait for another Lomo camera to come my way and tempt me with a new project.

Las fotografías que aparecen en este video arte forman parte de una serie realizada por la fotógrafa Lucila Bodelón con una cámara Lomo entre los años 2004 y 2006.
También fueron utilizadas filmaciones caseras de su familia realizadas en Super 8 intervenidas manualmente y tranferidas luego a formato digital.
El tema musical "Heart" pertenece al primer disco solista (Secret) de la cantante Sumaia O.
El montaje fue realizado por Ian Kornfeld.

The photographs in this video art are part of a series done with a Lomo camera by photographer Lucila Bodelón in the period running from 2004 to 2006.

Also, the series include home made movies from her family recorded with a Super 8 camera. These pics were manually manipulated and then converted into a digital format.

The Lomos

My first contact with photography came as I traveled with my parents throughout the country. A mechanic Minolta – which my dad really loved – helped me take my first picture. My dad taught me to measure light, focus and then, take the photo. Of course, the theme of this initial series of pictures were always my parents!

After high school, in a real act of emancipation, I decided to take it a step forward and began studying photography and film.

By 2004, I was carrying around my Lomo camera with me wherever I went. This practically disposable camera brought about a wonderful thing into my life: color and fate, the first taking over my eyes and the second, my life.

I started traveling again and taking photos that were a lot less structured. This fresh look came together with a more assertive and peaceful way to face the world.

Since then, I've turned photography into a game. I play with everything I see. I walk around familiar old places that I'm able to interpret because I can remember them, I know them, I love them. Buenos Aires, the Pampas embody my childhood. The beaches, the Atlantic sea embody my adolescence.

Today, I choose Buenos Aires to be my home.

I compiled all these images so that others can see them, interpret them from a new perspective.

Me gustan todas las cámaras de fotos, sus diseños, sus funciones, sus diferentes estilos, formas y sobretodo lo que cada una de ellas puede darme estéticamente.
Así es como cada cámara que llega a mis manos me inspira algún nuevo proyecto.
Encontré las Lomos en la tienda del Malba, elegí la suplersampler porque siempre me interesó la fragmentación, la secuencia y la composición que esta me permite. Estaba en un momento en el que necesitaba salir de mis propias estructuras y disciplinas impuestas así que esta Lomo me dio libertad y me dejó salir jugar con lo que veía, me escapé de mi cajita, pude ver en colores y mover inquietamente mis ojos.
Así es como esta vez partí desde la Forma. La idea y todo el proyecto apareció luego de ver varias de las tomas que estaba haciendo con la cámara. Todas ellas, sin darme cuenta o de manera inconciente, pertenecían a lugares en los que había estado en mi infancia o en mi adolescencia.
Los viajes, los paisajes del campo, las rutas, las playas todos eran sitios que pertenecían de algún modo a mi pasado y sus imágenes estaban atrapadas en mi alma. Necesitaba traerlas, resignificarlas y rendirles un pequeño homenaje.
Para hablar del presente fotografié Buenos Aires, la ciudad en la nací y en la que vivo hoy.
En este proyecto trabajé 2 años, seleccioné 40 fotografías y gasté dos cámaras lomo, también realicé un video, Paseo.
Ahora me encuentro trabajando con mi querida Rollei (volví a mi cajita) mientras tanto espero tranquila que el azar ponga delante de mis ojos otra lomo y su forma me invite a otro proyecto.

Las lomo

Los primeros encuentros con la fotografía comenzaron durante los viajes que hacía con mis padres por el interior del país. Fue una Minolta mecánica, muy cuidada por mi padre, la que me ayudó a tomar mi primera foto. Papá me enseñó a medir la luz, a poner en foco y a disparar una foto. Pero siempre dirigida a ellos, a mis padres…
Cuando terminé el secundario y a modo de emancipación, decidí mirar más lejos, estudié cine y fotografía.

En el 2004 empecé a llevar en mi cartera una cámara LOMO, una cámara casi descartable, y el color se apoderó de mis ojos, como así también el azar. Volvieron los viajes y las fotos descontracturadas, la mirada fresca acompañada de un andar más seguro y sereno. Desde entonces, tomo fotografías a modo de juego con los que veo, camino por lugares elegidos, que interpreto porque los recuerdo, los conozco, los quiero: los campos de Buenos Aires son mi infancia, las playas de la costa atlántica , mi adolescencia; y Buenos Aires , la ciudad en la que elijo vivir hoy.

Reuní estas imágenes para ser miradas por otros, para ser interpretadas por nuevos ojos.
Espero que disfruten del viaje tanto como yo.

el gusto insistente por el mundo,
una catarara vertiginosa de percepciones sin nombre: el inicio.

Creía y no creía,
por esa razón, el mar.
Porque entonces mezclamos nuestros odios, nuestros sexos,
nuestros furiosos trazos humanos
ardiendo en el agua,
y los ojos abiertos a la inmensidad,
buscando partículas de vidas posibles,
probando hasta qué punto, qué borde, qué límite
el territorio
será nuestro,
espesura o dolor

Y la pregunta rozándonos las sienes
si tal vez, luego de tanto
disolverse
emerge en algún sitio
nuestro, propio
el cuerpo.

En el año 1993 comencé a estudiar Cine y Fotografía. Completando ambas carreras en el año 1997. Mi formación teórica se fue complementando (hasta la actualidad) con la Dra. Marta Zátonyi. Desde el año 1997 asisto a su estudio de formación en historia del arte y de la estética, Ethos. Y es ella a quien considero mi gran maestra.

Desde el año 1998 dicto talleres de fotografía y clínica de obra, revalorizando el trabajo de autor y el desarrollo personal en el recorrido artístico.

In 1993, I began studying photography and film, graduating from both careers in 1997. I continued my studies taking art history and aesthetics courses, given by Dr. Zátonyi at her own Centre of Studies, Ethos, which I keep attending as to this date. I think of Marta as my mentor.

Since 1998, I teach and give photography and art clinic workshops, where my students learn to revaluate signature works and personal development in the career of the artist.
